Thanks to Marcus who showed off his copy of the Limited Edition, I decided to get my own after work. Well, one good thing is I will be able to capture and post more pictures on the package, for the benefit of those who are still hesitating.
The first thing I noticed at the shop was the PS3 Limited Edition is smaller in size than the Xbox360 version. I reckon this is due to the size of the jewel covers of both versions since, from the indication on the outside, both versions have the same content. How you tell them apart? Well, from the stickers – the Xbox360 version has a green sticker label, while the PS3 version has a blue sticker label.
I took additional shots and posted them in the album above. I also made side-by-side comparisons of certain items of the packaging with similar released items – the outer packaging against N3 Limited Edition, the DVD tin case against Halo2 Limited Collector’s Edition and the 2GB chainsaw thumbdrive against Saint’s Row2’s 512MB bullet thumbdrive.
RE5 Limited Edition loses out to the N3 Limited Edition in terms of size, but then again both packages contain different things. RE5’s was holding in a copy of the game and another tin DVD case and a block of soft Styrofoam for the thumbdrive. N3 was packing in two t-shirts and a copy of the game.
The RE5 tin-case feels like it has the same finishing as the Halo2 Limited Collector’s Edition. Instead of housing a mere “Making-Of” DVD, I feel it is worthy to hold the game disc. But if you want to preserve the tin case, it is best to put it away and just stick to the standard jewel cover for your daily use.
The 2GB thumbdrive is generous for a freebie, and most of us feel that the chainsaw replica is very well crafted. Compared to the bullet thumbdrive which was released together with Saints Row2 Collector’s Edition , the RE5’s look more unique and practical. However, I was a little disappointed to find out that the RE5 thumbdrive is empty. At least the Saints Row2’s thumbdrive had premium wallpapers and stuff for you to use.
The game’s jewel cover comes with a two-sided cover labels – Resident Evil 5 on one side and BioHazard 5 on the other. It’s up to you to switch them as you may like.
