"Project Natal" a few years ago...

When I saw this scene in 'The Island' movie years ago, I thought it was quite cool for Xbox to have this one day. Mind you, this is during the days of XboxV1 before the next gen consoles such as the Nintendo Wii sprang up.

With Project Natal announced last month at E3, the above scene looks set to become reality. But does the absence of controllers brings a huge void to gamers and their identity?

BlazBlue is easier to play...

When Street FighterIV was released last year, I avoided that game like a plague. I'm not proficient in these side scrolling fighting games (although I could manage the controls in UFC 2009 and Fight Night games decently) so naturally I avoid playing them.

Recently, someone in the forums was selling his Street Fighter IV and Hori Stick Bundle for about S$120, so I decided to grab the deal. After all, the Hori stick could also be used in many other games like those in the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection.

BlazBlue Normal Edition was released last week but I decided to wait a week for the Limited Edition. It wasn't the fighting mechanics that appealed to me but more of its anime presentation. (I'm not a big fan but I can get pretty excited about it). I loved Tales of Vesperia so BlazBlue strikes me at the same chord as well.

The Limited Edition comes with an additional jewel case packed with a disc containing an intro video about the game, presented by IGN's Jessica Chobot, and two discs containing sountracks.

For a price range of about S$90, this is quite a good buy. Check out more pictures in the album above.

Nizam's Xbox Draw - June Winner

I'm two days late from the announcing the winner this month.

Unfortunately, I did not get any entries for this month's draw, but since I intend to award one new person each month, I decided to choose one of the non-winners from previous months. So, this month's winner goes to Gamertag: Lord BaneJ.

Since he is only a Silver member, his prize will be 'up to S$30 worth of Xbox360 products, to be chosen by the winner'.

Congratulations!

If you want to stand a chance to win, check out the terms and conditions.

Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson

It's been a busy day at work, but I managed to catch the news of the death of Michael Jackson this morning, just hours after the incident.

A lot of us at work were saddened by the news, and couldn't believe that this happened when he is just about 50years old. He was an inspiration to many and could have inspired a lot more in future years. But his legacy and music will live on.

I stopped by a record store and managed to get my hands on a video compilation of his music. It doesn't have all the songs but it is still pretty decent. Hopefully there will be a release on Blu Ray.

Thank you for the memories, Michael Jackson sir.

Overlord II in two days' time

This week is packed with game releases.

On Tuesday 23 June, three titles were released - Ghostbusters, Transformers and Fight Night Round 4.

This Friday, 26 June, Overlord II will overload the shelves.

I got a sneak peek of the game and one segment that may interest you (and your girlfriends) is that you have a full level wherein you play as a Baby Overlord. This is actually a tutorial stage which reintroduces you to the controls (those who played Overlord before) and highlights some new features about the game.

Some screens below.

If you're looking for something different from your usual genre of games, consider Overlord II - it's packed with kiddish violence, humour and evil.

One step ready for Project Natal...

I decided to embrace and experience HDMI technology on my Xbox360. While visiting the new Funzcentre outlet yesterday, I took the opportunity to get an Xbox360 Arcade Console (I think it's a Jasper because it's manufactured this year and uses 12.1 Amp power brick). Speaking, the Arcade Console sports a power brick which is very much lighter than the ones we've been using on earlier manufactured sets.

My 32" LCD TV has HDMI port but it only supports up to 1080i, but even then, there were some noticeable differences from my previous VGA cable setup. If you have the opportunity (and addtional budget) to upgrade to an Arcade console, go for it.

Along with the console, I also purchased a HDMI cable, MS 1600points card, 13-months Xbox LIVE subscription card and some games.

Facemapping: How I look in Fight Night Round 4

When Xbox360 was launched here in 2006, Fight Night Round3 was one of the launch titles that caught a lot of attention. I remember playing the demo countless times then, until I eventually got the game.

About three years later, Fight Night Round4 followed up with its release here on 23 June 2009, and one of the new features is you can take advantage of the LIVE Vision Camera to superimpose your face into a created virtual boxer.

So I decided to give it a spin and guess how my face turned out in the game.

Note: These are screenshots of my first attempt at 3am this morning. Perhaps something was wrong in the process and I should give it another shot.

Stay tuned for Marketplace to fix up

After the scheduled Xbox LIVE update yesterday (which supposedly resumed after 3pm Singapore time), it seems that subscribers couldn't access Marketplace contents (which includes downloading newly released Arcade titles such as Sam & Max and Magic:The Gathering).

If you clicked on downloading any game, it will get cut off, such as the example below.

Rest assured that the LIVE Engineers are working on it. In the meantime, pick up a game from your collection and play offline.

Xbox LIVE should be back up around 3pm today (Singapore time)

Don't be a fool like me.

I came home from work on Tuesday with a 1600pts card to download the new roster for Smackdown vs RAW 2009, only to realise that Xbox LIVE is down.

A quick with www.majornelson.com showed that the service should be back up at 3pm today Singapore time.

Guitar Hero Smash Hits out soon!

Time to dust off your old Xbox Guitar controllers or get the latest one so you can rock on to the latest instalment of the Guitar Hero series lineup - Guitar Hero Smash Hits. With a compilation of over 40 hits from past Guitar Hero titles, I think this will be my favourite of the franchise.

If you're going to Video Games Live Concert this Friday, there is a high chance that you can get to preview this title. Check it out!

Tracklist for Guitar Hero Smash Hits

You've enjoyed rocking out on Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Metallica as a band.

With Guitar Hero Smash Hits, you and your band can now rock out hits favourites from past Guitar Hero titles. Here are screenshots of the tracklist from the game:

Smash Hits returns with your customisable Guitar Hero characters...

If you're looking for people on Xbox LIVE to trade with, check out the list of items and gamertags on this thread.

These people are hardcore and dedicated about the game and can offer you some useful advice too if you're just starting out.

With up to 4-player coop on Xbox LIVE, this is a rare opportunity for four players to interact, strategise and work together at the same time on the many quests in the game.
